Medical Assistant - Allergy Department

Location: Fort Worth, TX

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.
  • Performs general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, including but not limited to blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, current medications, and presenting problem.
  • Assist providers with in-office procedures
  • Document patient plan(s) of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
  • May schedule patients for diagnostic testing, follow up to ensure completion of testing, and communicates with patients regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by provider.
  • Prepares, cleans and sterilizes instruments, maintains equipment, and keeps patient exam rooms clean, stocked, orderly, and disposes of contaminated items, including sharps, according to protocol.
  • Escalates non-routine issues, question,s and/or concerns to the practice administrator or healthcare provider(s).
  • Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
  • Provides for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the practice administrator, nursing supervisor, or as requested by healthcare provider(s).

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates respect and compassion towards patients, family members and all members of the healthcare team.
  • Good computer skills using a medical management application.

  • A high degree of organization and accuracy.
  • Must have strong listening, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly.
  • Must have the ability to understand and respond effectively and with sensitivity to all age spectrums.
  • Work with various cultural and ethnic groups tactfully and efficiently.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent Required
  • One (1) year minimum experience in a Clinical setting.
  • CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) required. If certified, the certification must be maintained.
  • Possesses a willingness to accept orders and to perform repetitive tasks.
  • May require specialized training to be identified
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • Has awareness of the need for discretion and keeping confidential matters relating to the patients and their problems.
