Medical Assistant

Location: Arlington, TX

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic Medical Assistant to run the clinic for one partner in a busy Ear Nose & Throat group practice. We treat all ages from newborn to seniors.

In our practice, the MA is a critical member of the clinical team. While the patient is in the clinic, the MA interviews the patient and charts in the EMR, as well as schedules tests and procedures and assists with minor office procedures. The MA also handles and triages phone calls from patients. A clear understanding that medicine is a service industry and the patient is the customer is critical.

Ideal skills would include at least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant, an ability to take vitals, an ability to type, a familiarity with Windows computers, and a knowledge of medical terminology. A knowledge of the NextGen EMR system would be helpful.

Typical hours are from 8am to 5:30pm M-Th and 8:30 to 4:30 on Friday.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet patients and bring them from the waiting room to the exam room
  • Collect detailed health history from each patient and record in EMR (this requires reading previous chart entries and becoming familiar with existing patients)
  • Obtain faxed records from referring physicians
  • Measure vital signs and record these in EMR
  • Schedule tests, procedures and referrals
  • Assist with in-office procedures
  • Clean and sanitize rooms between patients
  • Keep rooms stocked
  • Clean and sterilize medical equipment
  • Contact insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations
  • Manage prescription refill requests
  • Triage patient phone calls, discussing these with physician and answering patient questions
  • Keep nursing and patient areas neat and tidy
  • Help the office (and physician) stay on schedule

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Medical Assisting certification (recommended)

Job Type: Full-time
